Retrieving a Rocna anchor is usually straightforward:
-
Motor forward while retrieving the rode until your bow is directly above the anchor.
-
A straight vertical pull is often enough to break it free.
If the anchor is stuck due to hard bottom conditions or heavy weather, don’t overload your windlass or strain yourself manually. Try this:
-
Use the swell to your advantage: as the bow dips with each wave, take in a few inches of rode. After a few cycles, the anchor will usually work itself loose.
-
If there’s no swell, cleat off the rode and gently motor over the anchor to break it out.
In most cases, vertical tension alone will free the anchor quickly and easily.
