Can I drill a hole in the anchor shaft to fit the existing lock pin on my bow roller system?

< 1 min read

We do not recommend drilling holes in the shank for two key reasons:

  1. Drilling can weaken the shank by compromising the structural integrity of the high-tensile steel. The heat from drilling may also damage the metal.

  2. It can lead to corrosion by damaging the hot-dip galvanized coating that protects the anchor.

We also advise against using a metal pin to retain the anchor. In rough conditions, wave action can bend the pin, making it difficult—or even impossible—to deploy the anchor quickly in an emergency. This has happened to some users.

Instead, we recommend lashing the anchor to the bow. This method keeps the anchor secure while allowing it to be quickly untied or cut loose if needed.
